The review of the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) Single Market Economy (CSME), free movement of labour, security and the budding relationship between Chile and the regional body were among the top priorities at the [37th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of Government of CARICOM](http://caricom.org/cochog) which concluded yesterday. The meeting was held at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown, Guyana.

Coming out of the meeting, it is expected that a review of the CSME and free movement mechanism will be undertaken as well as a multimedia campaign to educate Caribbean nationals on the workings of the movement, while there will be measures to boost regional security.

The Chairman of the CARICOM Conference of Heads, and Prime Minister of Dominica, the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit said the Conference was an opportunity to seriously consider the effect Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU) would have on CARICOM.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, the Chairman noted that the Region had a long and deep relationship with the United Kingdom and stated that Britain remained one of CARICOM’s most important trade partners. He encouraged the Region not to resolve to blindly imitate what had happened in Britain, but instead work together to strengthen cooperation and collaboration to create a stronger more vibrant Community.

He reiterated these sentiments during a [press conference](http://www.caricom.org/media-center/communications/press-releases/caricom-banks-on-excellent-relations-with-uk-eu) at the conclusion of the Heads of Government Meeting on Wednesday night. He said, *”The vote by the people of the United Kingdom to leave the European Union (EU) notwithstanding, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) reposes confidence in the excellent relations it shares with both parties.”* He stressed the importance of those relations and said that the Community would await the outcome of the negotiations of Britain’s exit from the EU.
