**TODD M.J. BENEBY**, Relationship Manager, Scotia Private Client Group (SPCG), Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited is the industry professional selected as “Mentor of the Year” by the Bahamas Financial Services Board.
The Award is slated to be presented at this year’s Financial Services Industry Excellence Awards Banquet, November 9, at the Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort. The Mentor of the Year is the newest category in the Excellence Awards, having been introduced in 2010 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the awards programme. Nominees must work in financial services or a related profession, and must have contributed to the development of persons in the industry through personal guidance/advice, whether by way of a formal or informal mentoring initiative. BFSB CEO Aliya Allen says, *“These annual awards clearly demonstrate the significance BFSB and, indeed, the industry attaches to our most valuable asset – our people. The Mentor of the Year category is particularly important as it is these very individuals that have such an important role in keeping our industry professionals focused and motivated. This is critical to sustaining our industry.”*
Colleagues nominating Todd Beneby assert that he has assisted many “Scotiabankers” through his sound advice and practical solutions to everyday concerns they may be experiencing – while at the same time displaying all the qualities consistent with a great role model. Many of them continue to maintain a relationship with him today, after their mentor/mentee relationship may have ended. This has been particularly so for male employees, although there are many testimonies from female employees who have benefited from his guidance. Of utmost importance, his colleagues speak to the comfort of knowing that confidentiality in discussions will be upheld to the highest standards – allowing the building of relationships across personal and professional levels. One mentee submitting a supporting document for the nomination says, *“During my first experience with Mr. Beneby, he immediately made me feel welcome as if we had been long time friends, while also displayed an impressive degree of professionalism. He always demonstrates integrity, compassion and reputable people skills and opens the door to free and constructive dialogue.”* Others added, *“He taught me to bring a concept to my work environment which enabled me to better interact with people which brought impressive results. He also provided valuable tips to me on how to position myself and be ready for career opportunities. I certainly look at Todd Beneby as a leader among leaders!”*
