The Bahamas and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland signed a [Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA)](https://bfsb-bahamas.com/international/052334600.pdf) at the Ministry of Finance today.
Signing on behalf of the Bahamas was the Rt. Hon. Zhivargo Laing, Minister of State for Finance, while the non-resident British High Commissioner to The Bahamas, Jeremy Cresswell CVO, signed on behalf of the UK.
*“This signing of this TIEA is another step towards the Government of The Bahamas fulfilling its commitment to the evolved international standards of transparency and information exchange,”* said Minister Laing.
The TIEA represents the fourth completed by the Government and the second concluded with a major OECD country, and Minister Laing further noted, *“It is particularly meaningful to The Bahamas and we think befitting, that this agreement is with a Commonwealth country with which The Bahamas has longstanding historic and economic ties.”*
In concluding remarks at the ceremony, the Minister pointed out that as both parties adjust to the ever-changing global financial and economic landscape, The Bahamas looks forward to cooperation with the United Kingdom in this and other areas and to a continued robust and amiable relationship between the two countries.
