Charlene is a certified public accountant, who started her professional career with the accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche in 1995. During her tenure she served as an Audit Assistant, and Audit Senior following which, she was seconded to Deloitte and Touche in Jersey, The Channel Islands where she worked first as a Corporate/Trust Officer before being promoted to Assistant Manager, Trust and Corporate Administration. Upon returning to Nassau in October 1999 she joined Deloitte & Touche Corporate Services Limited as Manager – Client Relationships where she remained until August 2003.
Three of several notable accomplishments during her tenure at Deloitte & Touche were:
· The supervision of a team of accountants on a 14-week audit of the largest insurance company in Jamaica, where she led in the discussion of complex insurance issues with the client and partners on the engagement. She also assisted with the implementation of the Audit/Systems 2 software for the Jamaican team.
· In the summer of 2001 she spent six weeks with Deloitte & Touche, Panama as a part of a Spanish immersion program. She delivered a presentation on Corporate Services and Trust Administration policies in Spanish to a group of 25 native Spanish speakers.
· Charlene completed an Advanced Proficiency Certificate in Spanish in December 2002 at the College of the Bahamas and was given an award by the College as The Most Outstanding Student in Foreign Languages for the academic year 2002-2003. Charlene’s Spanish speaking ability allowed her to communicate orally and in writing with some of her firm’s largest clients.
Charlene recently joined The Private Trust Corporation Limited as Client Relationship Team Manager.
In March 2003, Charlene was appointed to the Board of Directors of The Bahamas Development Bank, where she also serves on the Audit Committee.
She graduated with distinction from the College of the Bahamas with an Associate of Arts Degree in Accounting in 1992. In 1995 she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting at Elmira College, Elmira New York graduating Magna Cum Laude with a grade point average of 3.85 on a 4.0 scale. In her final semester at Elmira she simultaneously completed her degree and prepared for and passed all sections of the Certified Public Accountancy exam in one sitting. Charlene also holds an Advanced Proficiency Certificate in Spanish from the College of the Bahamas.
