Ethel M. Bain-Turner
College of the Bahamas graduate Ethel M. Bain-Turner is the recipient of BFSB’s Business Student of the Year Award.
A teacher, Mrs. Bain-Turner has experience both on Cat Island and on New Providence. She taught at the C.C. Sweeting Junior High and A.F. Adderley Junior High schools during 1998 through to 2002, before returning this year to Arthur’s Town High School where she originally taught between 1994 and 1998 as Head of Department for the Math and Science Department.
She attained her Associate of Arts Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science (with credit) from the College of the Bahamas in 1993; the Teacher’s Certificate in Secondary Education (with credit) in 1994, and more recently the Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Information Systems (with distinction).
An active member of the Southland Church of God, she has served as Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Church Worker, Youth Worker, Children’s Choir Director, Liturgical Dance Instructor, and Youth Board Member. Ms. Bain has been a participant in the Lay Leadership Development Program at Evans-Barr Memorial Bible School since September 2001 up to the present time. She received a Certificate in Church Education from Evans-Barr in 2001.
Cat Island community involvement has included a variety of roles. She currently serves as Island Co-ordinator for the Cat Island Express Monthly Publication, and has served as Deputy Island Coordinator for the National Drug Council Community Development Program, and as a Working Committee Member of the Cat Island Youth Opportunity Centre.
