The Government has introduced an
Amendment to the Money Laundering
(Proceeds of Crime) Act of 1996.
Attorney General and Minister of
Foreign Affairs Janet Bostwick cited
this as yet another step in continuing
efforts to “…promulgate laws, the
enforcement of which will result in the
detection and successful prosecution of
money launderers”.
Governor General Sir Orville Turnquest,
in his Speech From The Throne at the
Opening of the current Parliamentary
Session, forecast this amendment Act,
indicating that it would “fully satisfy
Caribbean Financial Action Task Force
(CFATF) recommendations”.
The amendment will assist in the identify-
ing and taking of laundered money.
The Attorney General has given indica-
tion of further proposed amendments to
the Money Laundering (Proceeds of Crime)
Act – specifically relating to reporting
of suspicious transactions.
